Frequently Asked Questions

1. I have a painting done on canvas but it was removed from it's original stretcher bars for transportation. Can this be stretched again and displayed like the artist intended?

A: Depending on the amount of excess material available, the canvas can be restretched. Canvas material can be added by a conservator to allow the painting to be stretched.

2. Do I really need UV Glass?

A: UltraViolet rays are all around, not just in direct sunlight. Even some lightbulbs, especially fluorscents, can be harmful. The UV filter on conservation glass blocks 97% of damaging rays. The filter will prevent artwork from yellowing or fading away. This protection is not limited to works on paper. Currently there is a big movement in museums to place oil paintings under conservation glass to prolong their lifespan and retain their viberance.

3. I saw a type of frame that was just 2 pieces of glass or acrylic "sandwiched" together with a print in between. Can you do this?

A: No. We do not recommend it at all. This is not a conservation method of framing and can cause adverse effects to the artwork. Moisture can build up, leading to mold. Once this stage is in progress it is not reversable.

4. Can i call for a quote?

A: We are not able to give quotes via phone or email. If you are interested in us doing work for you, please come in with the piece and choose a frame that suites the artwork and we would be more than happy to give you an exact quote. We would also like to see the condition of the piece so that we can recommend the best method of preservation. If you are a corporation or volume customer please view our Corporate Services page.
